ERTRAC-Hungary’s mission is to determine in collaboration with the interested role-players of the road transport sector the midterm and the perspective vision of the road transport, as well as the way leading to it (research and development strategy), all this for the government, the competitive sector and for research and innovation.

At the beginning of the XXIst century road transport got a decisive role in the life of modern societies. It is determinant in the development of the economy, in social cohesion, in the regional and international relationships. Notwithstanding the positive effects, road transport has to face a number of challenges. This is especially true in the case of Hungary, where road transport has to face global challenges while it suffers of the impacts resulting from the constraints of the status of catching up.

In Hungary – in alignment with the European trends – since 2000 the increase in goods transport performances exceeds successively the growth rate of the GDP, while that of passenger transport approximates it. The rate of the households’ transport expenses is over 15% (within EU this belongs to the highest). In goods transport the share of the road sector equals to 60%, while actually in passenger transport is even over 80%, and further dynamical growth is expected.
The European road transport sector appropriates more than 28 billion € to research-development annually. This is financed by the involved groups of the private sector and by the member states mainly. A more efficient agreement between the research activities of the private and the public sectors would also result for Europe and for each member state more favourite, and beneficiary outcomes, especially as far as economic efficiency, the quality of the end result, as well as the innovation related time-saving are concerned.

ERTRAC-Hungary’s mission is to find out these possibilities and make proposals for efficient utilization in practice. By involving into its activities all the competent national role players, ERTRAC-Hungary due to its holistic and integrated road transport approach is capable of creating unique possibilities.
